I am giad to know that it would be possible for Mr. Karlbeck to endeavour to obtain for me the Sung pieces that I spoke to him about, and that the project has been favourabiy received by H. R.H. the Crown Prince, and by Mr. Lagrelius, your treasurer. I am quite willing to abide by the conditions that have been suggested and that are most reasonable. My only fear is that Mr. Karlbeck may be impeded in his legitimate work of acquiring specimens for the Syndicate by his efforts to secure the pieces I require. I have, however, made it clear to him, and I wish again to repeat here, that his work for the Syndicate should have precedence over my commission, and that the latter should in no way hamper or prejudice the former. / The specimens that I require will , I know, be so difficult to purchase from their respective owners that I shall not be in the least disappointed if Mr. Karlbeck does not succeed. / When His Royal Highness was over here, he informed me that you have in your Museum a square Ting yao brush washer with a Ch'ien Lung inscription similar to one of mine.
