WILLCOX, CORNELL UNIVERSITY My dear Dr. Andersson: The Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Studies associated with the American Council of Learned Societies is preparing a pamphlet entitled "A Career through Chi- nese Studies." «The object of this pamphlet is to stimulate interest in the serilws study of Chinese Culture among university men and women. We have already in hand a number of articles on various aspects of Chinese culture and the opportunities for work in those fielås, We should like to have an article from you on Archaeology in China. The article should give a summary of the work done in this field, outline the tasks immediate- ly ahead, state the problems, difficulties and opportunities in this field of investigations. The article may be 1500- 2000 worås in length. We expect to circulate this pamphlet widely among our universities. We should like to have the article as early as FA possible, that is as soon as you can prepare it: I earnest- ly hope ihat you can undertake this.
