Since you have suggested that we may use the pension for the purpose of publication, it is so much the wiser to push the publication fund together with your salary without however putting too much emphasis on the älifference, I am very glad to hear that you have secureåd the help of your distinguished countryman, Prof. Karlgren. I am only too glad to help him to buy the books. I am writing to him at the same time to explain my views. I am sending you by registered parcel post a box of Tertiary mollusces collected by me in Kwangsi., I shall be very g&rateful if you can ask Dr. Ohdner to study them. I want if possi- ble a fossil-list by May or June, After that I hope the fauna may be described in the Palaeontologia Sinica, The materjal sent consists of 20 pieces (with probably 5-6 species) all well-presers ed, I have addressed it to both you and Prof. Karlgren in case if you are away from Sweden. I am working hard at my Kwangsi material and am making slow progress, but hope to get things ready by May, Please write often as a word from you will always cheer me up. My dear Dr. Andersson, Your letter of the 3rd Feb, is most welcome as I have not heard from you for sometime, I have received also the copy of the American eåltion of your book with thanks, With regard to your salary Dr. Wong and myself are both convinced that the only way to have the question settled is to give up your claim for the pension, The Nationalist Government does not admit the vallälty of former contracts although they are willing to pay the salaries owed to some of the technical advisers, Even if you AR satisfactory answer re your pension no one$ knows how much it will be worth. It is surely unwise to give up that part of your salary allotted to Palaeontologia Sini- ca in favour of the pension, as the one is to/pajåd in cash and the other nothing more than a promise (except the small part). To get both is practically impossible since the negotiaters must give the Government in Nanking some concessilon in order to get a settlement. The fact that part of the salary is to be used for a scientific publication in China will not move the Ministry of Finance very much as they are not interested in science, In fact too much emphasis on this point may even make them think that that part is unimportant since it is to be paid to a Chinese Government instithtion which cannot put on any pressure, Dr. Wong is golng to see Baron Lei jonhufvud tomorrow and will talk matters
