With regard to your private orders I have already succeedéd in getting I9, I herewith inclose a list, From it vou will see that in order to get anv particular work it is necessary tö buy a large SH LevtEoR, My opinion regarding this list is as follows: I. Nos, 3, 5 and I9 are so expensive and the books are also of comparatively little value, that you might do without them. Äinx 2. No, TITO seems to be of valuB but rather expensive, No, 9 18 also expensive and to my mind Mr, Wang's scholar- ship is rather poor. Perhaps vou may not want them. I will wait for your orders hefore concluding. 3. The other works on the list are worthwhile and I intend to buy them as thev are, You will notice that excluding Nos. 3, 5,19, 9,10, the cost amount to $169.30, If you want Nos, 9 & 10 $ 68 have to be added, Please let me know as soon as possible your decision, It is rather inconvenlent to send these by book post which is also very expensive, Mav I ner inla wooden box and get them sent through your Legation? Dear Prof, Karlgren, I am in receipt of your letter of the IT7th Feb, and I have already got together more than I/3 of the books wanted by yourself. With regard to the books desired by Dr, Andersson's Institute, I have obtained already 66, I inclose herewith a Peseme få the contents etc, I have been obliged to buy a few collections in order to obtain the tsdine e nn contained therein, for exaple Ean and AR en both of which are serial publications containing mostly the 4 Ed writing; of Wangkuowei and Lochenyu. In the ineclosed list I have put at the end of each item the original number given in your list so as to facilitate reference, The total cost is $I,000. A receipt together with the price asked (put on the top of each item) and the price agreed to after bargaining (put at the end of each item) has been sent to your Legatlon here which has paid for the hooks in question. You will notice the agreed price amounted to $1,015, but when paying, I cut off the I5 dollars, making it exactly $1,000, The books are being sent to your Legation which will take care of the business of sending them to Swåen. The rest of the books on the list will be searched for fer and I think about one half can be obtained, Some of them have never heen published and others unobtainabhble,
