I have had so much to do and so little time that days past very quickly away. I intended to leave here for the sea side before this but want to do so after I have got my private file in order. Unfortunately thls is the hottest summer I have experienced----the temperature rose to IO8F in the shade! As the result one's working efficiency is reduced to zero, I must also apologise for falling to see you off at the station. I got there just three minutes too late having (as usualj)oversleptk. I could have klcked myself for that, had I not found some malicious consolation in the fact that our friend Black was in the same boat, There is after all no harm in belng listed in the Osborn category, although I would not dream of so doing to you. Please do not take my flitflippant remarks too seriously as you know how I have acquired the bad habit of joking over grave things. I have after all done good deal of work while I was in Peking, I am going ahead with my Yunnan work which I hope to finish before the summer is fully over, Then I will take up the much talked about book on history with the loess bkoblem as an introduction.
