Plimpton, Director May 19, 1949 Dear Dr. Karlgren: The precious manuscript and photographs arrived in good shape last Friday, but it was not until yesterday that I had a chance even to look at them. A first hasty reading has re- enforced a hunäred times my conviction that you were the one man to do this catalogue. It is a magnificent job, and if we can turn out as suc= cessful a one it will make your book something to aim at for a long time to come. I shall be going over it again, many times, to be sure that I have it just right, and if questions should arise will write to you. Mr, Pillsbury has not looked at it yet. He is not at all well, and finds it hard to put his mind on anything at the moment. However, he said yesterday that he would like to look at it soon. We do not expect Mr. Plimpton back before July, so it will be some time before there is any definite word on the publication. In the meanwhile I shall be checking the points that you found obscure in the photographs. I don't know how to tell you how pleased I am that you were willing to do the catalogue. It has been a monumental task, and there must have been times when it weighed heavily on you. Now that it is finished, I hope you feel happy and satisfied. You should be both, enormously.
