John Harshall, Rockefeller Foundation, 20, rue de La Baune, Paris fe Dear Mr. Marshall, In connection with our talk some days ago I wish to submit some remarks to you. I find that it would be maluable for me, as the only teacher of sinology in Scandinavia ax present, to get an opportunity to make myself ac- quainted with the mode of teaching and the facilities for study and research in the field of sinology in some leading universities and libraries in U.S.A., above all in Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Wachington and Chicago. It might also turn out to be of some interest to the professors at work there to hear my experiences from 24 years of academical teaching of sinology in Upsala, Gothenburg and Stockholm. If a journey for that purpose were economically feasåble, I think I would arrange it so as to arrive in New York around May lst 1948 and to stay in the States some 5 or 6 weeks. The plan provisori- ly discussed, that I should stay over in England on my return journey, I believe, after consideration, to be 1es3 suitable than to make a short sepa- rate trip to England in the beginning of Octsber, when the universities there are in full activity; 1t is, after all, no very great undertaking or cost to go from Stockholm to London, and it would give me time to sift my experiences from U.8.Å. before studying the conditions in England.
