owe (4) Plate&, I return the whole eet of plates thst you sent me, namely 3 coloured (i-11), & 13 uncoloured (1V-XV1). Will you be so good as to have the figures of Plate XV1l numbered as i have in- dicated lightly in pencil? I have sueceedeå ih working out the eize of nesrly all the objects on the pleates, except for those in Beck'e poesession; these will have to be done when he returns from the Continent in a couple of months. You will note that i have left space for the neceecesary additions in the list of plstes. Be tedo ((KoRE It Sal AA be necessary for you to fet me have the original EO drawings, & I suppose there will be no difficulty about this in a couple of months time. (5) You will remember that you have the original of the spectrographig folder, & thet I have not seen a pull of this. As to proofs. I åäo not think you have ever told me when you expected thst the number of the Bulletin containing this paper would eppear. if I were steying in this country 811 through the winter + should not bother you sbout proofe now, but I em going to Yale eerly in Jenuary ac visiting professor, & do not expect to be beck in Znglanä until July, eo it ie important (especielly considering Beck's poor etste of heslth) for me to receive proofse for correction during the comirg autumn or early winter, certainly before Christmas I also feel thet if it is in any wey poesible + ought to receive the proofs in sufficient time for me to be able to pass a second & final proof,

I em sware thet the number of pages is large, & mey alerm you at first sight, but you will I think be resaesured when you note how wide ie the spacing, how much material has been erossced out, & above 211 how meny of the pages have only a few lines of typescript upon them. (2) Eleven text figures. With these I send a list of text fieures. As this repeste the legend under each figure it may not be neceesary to publish it. I leave this matter to you, though I em inclined to think it may be helpfil to the reader. With regard to fext Figure 6, I ent you to be so good ar to get your blockmaker to write in a,b,e,&, on the four besde, & to draw good firm arrows pointing from a & b to c,ås I have indicated schematically on the drawing sent. On Figure 5, he should write in a & b. (3) Seven tables of spectrographic results, of uneven length. + do not know whether these tebles will reduce sufficiently to go horizontally upon one page of your Bulletin, i.e. takbng up about 9 inohes. 1 thinköik will, & I hope you will try this. it ig, how- ever, impossible for me to reäuce the amount of description, which is already &£0 short thet it is only just possible to identify the epecimens referred to.
