Ols DRIFFIELD MANOR, IOOMIENDRIKISTREET, CIRENCESTER . FROM SIR HERBERT INGRAM BT. af pouiron s. + ” Tosnon SW. PHONE: VICTORIA 1827. HI/FMR. 12th May 1938 Professor B. Karlgren, Sveavagen 65, Stockholm. Sweden. Dear Ur. Karlgren, Many thanks for your letter of the l2tn January last, which has reached me only today. It followed me out to South Africa, and apparently got lost there. I was wondering why I had not heard from you, but of course this is ample explanation. I am extremely grateful to you for your suggestion that you will be prepared to give me an interpretation of some of the inscriptions. I find it of the greatest possible difficulty to get any results in England, for reasons which I need not go into for the moment: Of course I am quite aware that most of the inscriptions are not very interesting, but on the other hand, they may be of interest to the owner of the piece. I am very surprised that the Bronze to which I referred belonged to Mr. Karlbeck, because I bought it at Bluett's Exhibition in the Spring of last year, end understood that it had come from China. Still, naturally Nr. Bluett did not tell me where the pieces all came from. I have altogether about thirty Bronzes, and Professor Yetts is good enough to say that they are all good specimens, and they are nearly all belonging to the Shang-Yin-Chou types. I shall be extremely glad to make your acqualintance when you can next come over to this country, and I hope you will not fail to advise me of your arrival. Yours sincerely,
