0loda Stockholm, June 29, 1938. Mrs. Ellen Hopp, Zentral Verwaltung, Uber 8ee, Siemens Sohtickert Werke, Siemens Stadt, Berlin. My Dear Ellen, I have to thank you most sincerely for your kind letter which was here waiting for me. I arrived in Stockholm the 28th of May and wrote you at once a lettel which was, however, mever mailed and this for two reasons. My very capable housekeeper, Mies Nygren fell seråously 111 only some few days after my return. She was even given a month”s sickleave but I have reason to doubt that she will be able to return the 7th of July when her sick=- leave expires. The-second reason for my delay is the abominable weather. It is what we name a green winter. This morning it was hardly ten degrees and I have been working the whole forenoon with the fire in my studio. There have been three beautiful summerdays during the whole month, I have been hers,and for the rest cold, wind and pouring rain. I have been only waiting för a spell of warm weather in order to invite you here, But this morning I read in Svenska Dagbladet that the Gulf stream is 4 degrees below the average and that the rest of this summer may be more or less the same,

OI096 I am negotiating with my acting housekeeper, a most imposing SRA divarrikst VARA, to stay with me until the end of July, so now I herewith officially invite you to come as soon as possible in order to share with me the green wifter and the sevsntW dry s mdventist. Margareta is staying with me together with her little son, Hans Göran, for a week counted from the 15th of July. It would be great fun to have you both together. I am certain that you would agree admirab'v and no doubt in few days you would reduce me to Peking dust. Miss Dorf who was scheduleé to go with me to Sweden received in the last moment a tempting new position. Since she followed me to the steamer the 30th of May I have had no word from her in spite of my most persistant letterwriting. This fact joins with the bad weather in making me downeast and gloomy. In fact, I am seriously contemplating to go back to Tonking and build my house where I will worship Buddhistie detities and the memory of all fair ladies which have embellished my life. Dear Ellen, please give my love to your bharming husband whose won- derful Christnwas gift is lying on the table in front of me / in fact the most useful Christsas gift I ever got/. Also my best regards and good wishes to sweet little Liesel. Yours very sincerely
