"Stockholm, Aug. 17, 1938. Dr. Wong fen-Hao, 118 Shang Ching Shih Street, OHUNGKING. China. Dear Dr. Wong, Tan minutes ago vour letter of August rd came into my hands and I hastened to reply without delay. I am very happy to feol that you take a friendly interest in my book which has made considerable progress, and may be out 4n Sweden in Getober. It is very probable that Kegan Paul will undertake to publish an edition for England and America /they are always collaborating with an American publisher/. I have suggasted to Kegan Paul two alternatives: 1/ That they publish the whole of my Swedish book which contains both my recent travels and the story of the Chinese war of resistance. 2/ They will eventually publish only thet section which tells the story of the Chinese reconstruction period and the present war of resistonce. The title of such a volume will ex- press what you say in your letter that China at present is struggling elone for democracy. I am very sorry that the large democratic powers have not seen their way to render direct assistance to China.
