Creation according to the Egyptians, Skapelsen enligt egyptierna

The Egyptians believed that the world was created in the same way as when, after the annual flood of the Nile, the water receded exposing the land underneath.
A multiplicity of approaches was typical for Egyptian thinking and there were numerous explanations for the creation of the universe. They all had in common that there was a primeval water out of which the first land arose. It was on this first hill that the creation continued: The birth of the sun and the population of the world - first by gods, then by humans.
At the time of creation, the universe was perfect. Focus was on maintaining this perfect world - day after day, year after year. New ideas were added, but they never replaced the old ways of thinking. Instead old and new was combined into a stable and long-lasting system based on the fundamental principle of reverence for the past.

Som då marken åter kom fram efter Nilens årliga översvämning. Så föreställde sig egyptierna att världen en gång hade skapats.
En mångfald av förklaringar var typisk för egyptiskt tänkande. Även skapelsen kunde förklaras på en mängd olika sätt. Gemensamt för de olika egyptiska skapelseberättelserna är föreställningen om ett urvatten, ur vilket det första landet reste sig. På denna urkulle rullade skapelsen vidare: solen föddes och världen befolkades, först av gudar och sedan av människor.
Världen hade skapats fullkomlig. Målsättningen var att upprätthålla detta perfekta tillstånd, dag efter dag, år efter år. Nya idéer kunde tillkomma, men de ersatte aldrig äldre tankemodeller. I stället kombinerades gammalt och nytt till ett stabilt och långlivat system, där vördnad för det förflutna var en grundläggande princip.
