Decor: divided into three registers. At the top, rampant lions flank a bearded long skirted figure with a horned crown. In the bottom register, the central figure from the top is repeated but flanked here by spear holding beardless figures, the left in split skirt, and the right in full length, with heads in profile

Although rather short, this may have been a cover for a quiver. The best documentation of quivers is in Assyrian reliefs. Two types of decor exist: one geometrical, one representational. These last appear in relief only under Assurnasirpal II, 883-859 B.C. Those from Luristan can be divided into two groups: Mesopotamian and eastern Luristan. Urartians used quivers, Elamites are shown wearing them, and one is known from Crete in the archaic Greek period (Moorey). If ours is authentic it has both iconographical and stylistic peculiarities. E.g.: top register: central bearded figure's skirt, side pieces may be misinterpreted wings seen in Assyrian and Luristan work. While his head is allright his feet turn both to the right, normally frontal figures feet turn outward. He grasps a curved thing seemingly attached to the lions' chests - intended as a weapon? Central register: unusual tree, see equally strange trees on the gold beaker from Marlik, and the silver one from Amlash, Eastern Luristan. The filling devices seem Neo-Elamite. Bottom register: badly drawn beardless figures, especially left leg left figure, and his short skirt misinterpreted as pants. Prominent noses = Luristan, hair forerunner Persian style, they lack beards. Suspicious or could be peculiar for Luristan. Internal style consistent Neo-Elamite (Porada) and late Luristan (Kantor) x-ray 13/8/76 (68)

Diagonal break across the middle register has been repaired, and the lower right corner and upper right edge are broken off. The dark brown figures against a lumpy dark green surface probably result of cleaning at time of recent repair. Quite corroded. Extra info.: x-ray 13/8/76 (68)
