Cleaning and conservation report. D-nr 16455013. 950108. Condition and corrosion: surface dirty with soil, part, rather even, large part of original surface preserved in smooth, dark green or brown patina layer. Mostly around the edges of blade and closer to pointed tip are distinct bronze disease bubbles - grey, hard waxy substance, covered with bright green, partially powder corrosion products. Has been drilled to take sample for metallographic analysis. Treatment: cleaned mechanically with scalpel, small soft rotating bristle and steel brushes, under magnification. Active corrosion spots partially excavated to original surface layer, stabilised in 3 % benzotriazole solution in ethanol for 48 hours. Rinsed in 95 % ethanol, dried. Protective coating of 10 % Paraloid B 72 applied.
