The clay cone is inscribed with an Akkadian inscription of Lipit-Ishtar, the fifth king of the Dynasty of Isin (1934-1924 BC). In the publication by D.R. Frayne, 58 other clay cones inscribed with the same text are listed. Five of these clay cones were recently excavated by the German expedition to the city Isin, the others are without recorded provenance. The inscription deals with the construction by Lipit-Ishtar of a pair of pot stands at the gate of the palace. All these clay cones were probably once placed in the walls of this gate of the palace in Isin. Translation: “I, Lipit-Ishtar, the humble shepherd of Nippur, true farmer of Ur, unceasing (provider) for Eridu, lord suitable for Uruk, king of Isin, king of the land of Sumer and Akkad, favourite of the goddess Ishtar, fashioned a pair of pot stands, a gift (for) the arms of the gods Enlil and Ninlil, in Isin, the city of my kingship, at the palace gate, when I, Lipit-Ishtar, son of the god Enlil, had established justice in the land of Sumer and Akkad.”
