On interior reserved medallion on floor centre with two black bands around central dot; rim top reserved; black band around outside of rim; outside of handles black; A: a couple (Dionysos and Ariadne?) standing between two large eyes with eyebrows, a branch with blobby leaves as filling ornament – added white and purple, incisions; B: Herakles fighting with the Nemean lion, flanked by two large eyes with eyebrows – added white and purple, incisions; below each handle an ornament; two black bands encircling bottom; uppermost part of stem reserved, remaining part and base top black; inside of stem black.

A kylix (pl. kylikes) is a relatively shallow drinking vessel, typically raised on a stem from a foot and having two horizontal handles disposed symmetrically, although many variants of the shape do exist. Their primary use was for the consumption of wine during symposia and, especially during the Classical period, many were decorated with scenes of a humorous or sexual nature.
