Large burial grounds were located on the
outskirts of the new capital Memphis. One
of the largest from the transition into the
Dynastic period was situated in modern
day Helwan, one of the southern suburbs of
Cairo. Several of the tombs belonged to the
new city’s elite officials.
One of them belonged to a woman whose
remains rest in the showcase. She is
surrounded by grave goods in the form of
pottery, vessels in schist and Egyptian
alabaster as well as a flint scraper and
jewellery. The woman was between 45 and
60 years old when she died. She had not
been particularly muscular and probably
belonged to the upper strata of society that
never had to do hard physical labour.
The tomb was found by Swedish
archaeologists in 1937.

mellan 45 och 60 år gammal när hon dog.
Hon hade inte varit särskilt muskulös och tillhörde troligen det övre samhällskikt som aldrig behövde ägna sig åt hårt kroppsarbete.
