Name and identification of character
An ordinary villager, gamayek (Sin.).
Context
A character appearing in the story portion in Kolam.
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica). Verdi kolan (verdi =yild).
Iconography
Raised eyebrows, thinly drawn in black, and eyes turned upwards. A twisted, brownish nose and red nostrils. The mouth is open showing both rows of teeth and the red gums, forming a hilarious expression. Although the hair on the head is painted in black, most of the colour has been erased, revealing a bold head. The ears are elongated. Scratches and tool dents are visible in the face.
Comments on the Umlauff Catalogue
Although the character is referred to as ¿verdi kolan¿ (¿verdi¿ is a phonetically wrong rendering of ¿Vädda¿), the colour of the face does not indicate a Vädda.
