Name and identification of character
A tiger, kotiya (Sin.).
Context
An animal character in Kolam. The mask is used either in solo dance or in the story portion in Kolam.
Material
Wood, vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica), and leather (the ears).
Iconography
The mask has the ferocious look of a carnivorous animal. It is painted in yellow, with spots painted in red and encircled by a black border. The ears are shrivelled into cup shape and painted in an ash colour with tiny spots. An open mouth with broad jaws. The tongue is made of wood, it is twisted upwards and painted in red. There are four canine teeth.
Damages
One of the canine teeth is broken.
