24 ly 7. 7 7- UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN .1.tn. 6-2720 South Africa October 21, 1949 Prof. Dr. G. Lindblom, Statens Etnografiska Museum, STOGKHOLL'i, Sweden uear Professor Lindblom, sending you a box containing a few South African ethnoaraphical specimens. I enclose a list of tham. They are in most cases Very ordinar:y objects; but the wooden figure showing _Pedl_initiation garb, the Ngwato 4oe.head, ana the Venda biris' initiation ornament are now euite rare. Most of the objects are from my private collection. Those with riiiitiVi.å" are from tie EthnographicarMuseum attached to the Department of talthropology ---- ' this'Un'iversity hopa these will be of some use and in- terest in your Museum. The box is being sant on board one of the shi.ps of the Transatlantic Shipping Co. 1 spoke to the local f4anager, bir. G. Magnusson, Who is also Consul for åweden in Cape Town; and he rromised that .the box wauld bäaonveyed free on theit Line. I do nöt kron: whether there will beanYahargea toPtaYfor the conveyance of the box from the ship's port of tall to Stockholm. Perhaps, since the tontants are a free gift of objects of no conmerdial value, to a Government institution, it maj be possible to obtain . free transport for then in Sweden, on:the State railways at least. That erhaps you can arrange; and in this connection you might like to communicate with the nedessary authorities before the box reaches Sweden. You doubtless know that the address of the Transatlantic Shipping Go. in Sweden is Pakhusplatsen, Gothenburg. Should there be anyelarge, however, for ccriveyance, etc., in Sweden,- we wish to tear7äuch charge ourseives, and not have you debited with it; and we have advised our shipping agents accordingly. My wife and I still have the most pleaåånt mennries of the interesting hours in your Museum and the really splendid evening we had at your home. release remember us most kindly to Mrs.. Lindblom and to your son. Kind regards. Yours very siheerely, s, tu-4 eLun. [ocr]
