Since then he has enjoyed a jobbing actor's life of rep, touring, pantomime and film and television. Enjoyable stints in the West End include 'No Sex Please, We're British', 'Rolls Hyphen Royce', 'Licence to Murder', 'Mr Cinders', 'Our Town' and' Bent 'at the National Theatre. More recently he appeared in Michael Grandage's critically acclaimed 'The Wild Duck' at the Donmar and appeared again for Michael in 'Ivanov'. Favourite parts played range from Zeus in 'The Iliad', Duchess in 'Alice in Wonderland ', a slave in 'Die Zauberfloete' and Toad in 'Toad of Toad Hall'. John played the lead in 'Studies For A Portrait' at the King's Head, and last year was nominated for The Off West End Awards for 'Buried Child' at the Gatehouse Theatre in Highgate. Television credits include "Dr Who", "Blind Justice", "The Jump", "Scarlett" and "Midsomer Murders". Film roles include Sir Anthony Eden in the Egyptian film 'Nasser' ,'The Parent Trap', Merriman in Robert Altman's 'Gosford Park', Nigellus in 'Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix', 'Robin Hood' and 'Love's Kitchen'. John has worked in Kenya, South Africa, The U.S.A., Japan, Korea, Germany and Holland and is delighted to be performing at The Gothenburg English Studio Theatre." [GEST:s hemsida]
