Every object in the museum's collections has a number, an identification. The first four digits of the number show the year that it entered the collections. The objects in the drawer, however, have a number beginning with the digits 9000. The original identification is missing. The knowledge of when the object arrived at the museum, or which collection it belongs to, has been lost. It can be that the object has no markings or that the number and object don't agree with the picture in the general catalogue. Sometimes the loss of identification is caused by label damage, making the number illegible. Working with the museum's collections is a kind of detective work. Sometimes you succeed in solving the riddle, and the object recovers its correct number. But not always. You might ask what's left of the story when the identity is lost.
