This brass lock is in the shape of a fish - a symbol for plenty. The body was cast in two halves and soldered together. A pin, also serving as the eyes of the fish, further secures the two halves together. Details of the fish, such as the scales and fins, are engraved. The key is stamped with "이조장식", which may be translated as "decoration of the Joseon dynasty." The bar of the lock is attached to two springs that is hidden inside of the locked when in locked position. When the key is inserted through the tail end of the fish, the springs are pressed together, releasing the lock. A 20th century tassel is threaded through a hole at the end of the key.
