18th Dynasty, New Kingdom

Thutmosis I helped to restore the greatness of Egypt after times of decay when the so-called Hyksos rulers controlled parts of the country. He led customary campaigns against Nubia, which, during the New Kingdom, became fully incorporated into Egypt. Wars against Syria made Egypt into a superpower with a prominent status in trade and diplomacy.
Several new temples were built during Thutmosis I. The Temple of Karnak was enlarged and the god Amon-Re was elevated to one of the country’s foremost gods.
Thutmosis I was the first king to be buried in the Valley of the Kings at Thebes in a well-hidden grave that his architect, Ineni, had carved deep into the rock face when ’no one saw and no one heard’.

18:e dynastin, Nya riket
Thutmosis I bidrog till att återupprätta Egyptens storhet efter en period av sönderfall, då de så kallade Hyksos-härskarna hade kontrollerat delar av landet. Han ledde sedvanliga fälttåg mot Nubien, som under Nya riket helt införlivades i Egypten. Krig mot Syrien gjorde Egypten till en stormakt med en framträdande roll inom handel och diplomati.
Under Thutmosis I byggdes flera nya tempel. Templet i Karnak byggdes ut och Amon-Re lyftes upp till att bli en av landets främsta gudar.
Thutmosis I var den förste som begravdes i Konungarnas dal i Thebe, i en väl dold klippgrav som hans arkitekt Ineni hade låtit hugga ut i hemlighet, när ”ingen såg och ingen hörde”.
