Einar Lauritzen was one of the last real pioneers of our archival movement, and was present at the founding of the film archive in Stockholm in 1933. He was very active in the Swedish film archive as well as internationally in FIAF, participating in numerous Congresses over the years, as well as serving as Treasurer of FIAF for several years in the 1950s and 60s. Through the Lauritzen Foundation created by his father, he generously supported many Swedish and international projects, most notably the monumental 2-volume American Film Index, covering 1908-1920, which he published in collaboration with Gunnar Lundquist. Einar Lauritzen’s death was announced by the President in Ljubljana, and a minute of silence was observed in his memory. Tributes in memory of Einar Lauritzen will be featured in the next issue of our Journal of Film Preservation (#70, Autumn 2005). (www.fiafnet.org, 2005-06-14)
