The rope making machine from the 1970s manufactured drive ropes for industrial use as well as macrame yarn and jute yarn for agriculture at the ropeworks Sommers in Bocholt. Since 2012 it has been one of the exhibits of the LWL-Industrial Museum Bocholt Textile Factory and is used for demonstrational purposes. The rope making machine twists single threads into strands and winds them onto large disc reels in the rear part of the machine. The strands are directed through a perforated disc and through a metal guide and then twisted under pressure into rope by the rotating die. After that the finished rope is wound onto a large disc reel. The electric motor and the rotation of the discs generate the characteristic humming sound of the machine.
