Rundbottnad skål med lock. Locket med trattliknande handtag i 4 öppningar i genombrutet arbete. Gråblått stengods.

This lidded bowl has an oval shape when closed. The lid is topped with a pedestal-shaped knob with four equidistant, rectangular cut-outs. Below the knob, the sides slant down to a protruding band at the edge of the shoulder above a flange. The lip of the bowl has a straight rim (flange) above a ridge (gallery) for holding the lid in place. The gently curved bowl has a flattened base. The smooth surface was achieved by the use of a refined clay and final trimming on a potter's wheel. The surface of the vessel has an overall dark, grey-bluish colour. The interior and exterior of the bowl have speckles of accidental, natural ash glaze. There is a symbol incised on the surface of the lid.

This object is a food bowl which was also used for funerary ceremonies and as grave object. The shape and type of decoration of lidded bowls of this type are identical with the upper part of lidded pedestal bowls, one of the major pottery types found in tombs of the Silla period (57BCE-668CE). Lidded bowls without a pedestal were excavated in the area around Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom (e.g. Cheonmachong or Geumgwanchong tumuli).

The old catalogue records state that this artefact is one of a collection of four objects that was found near the city of Gyeongju, the former capital of the Silla kingdom (57 BCE – 935 CE), and was donated by the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess for inclusion in the collection of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities after their journey to Korea (1926). (“Collection of objects from Korea handed over to the East Asian Collections (Östasiatiska Samlingarna) by Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess. 'Sira-gi yaki'', pottery of Sira [Silla] period. 5th or 6th cent. A.D. Found near Keishū [Gyeongju] Southern Korea.").

This object was acquired by King Gustaf VI Adolf (1882 – 1973), then Crown Prince, and Queen Louise (1889 – 1965), then Crown Princess, during their journey to Korea in October 1926. The royal couple visited Gyeongju where the Crown Prince, who had a keen interest in Korean art and archaeology, had the opportunity to participate in the excavation of a royal Silla tomb of the 5th century - The Auspicious Phoenix Tomb (Korean: Seobongchong) - on 10th October 1926. A golden crown with phoenix ornaments (Treasure No. 339, now held in the National Museum of Korea; Bongwan-014319-00000) was unearthed and the Crown Prince received a precious gold earring as a commemorative gift. In addition, the character "seo" in the tomb's name, which means "auspicious", was borrowed from the first character of the Korean name for Sweden, “seojeo.” Today, an engraved stone stele in memory of the royal visit and the Crown Prince’s participation in the excavation as well as a tree planted by the Crown Prince can still be seen at the site. This visit of the later King of Sweden to Korea is considered an important event in Korean-Swedish relations.

뚜껑이 덮인 상태의 접시는 타원형이다. 뚜껑에 달린 꼭지는 네 개의 직사각형 구멍이 뚫려 있는 굽의 형태이다. 뚜껑의 윗면이 둥글게 내려와 드림턱에서 돌출하고 그 아래로 드림은 한번 단을 이루어 내려갔다. 몸체의 뚜껑받이는 직립했고 뚜껑받이턱은 살짝 돌출했다. 몸체는 완만한 곡선을 그리며 좁아들어 납작한 바닥으로 이어진다. 바탕흙(태토 胎土)으로 고운 찰흙을 사용하고 물레를 돌려 표면을 다듬은 듯 기면(器面)이 잘 정돈되어 있다. 그릇의 표면이 전체적으로 어두운 회청색을 띤다. 접시의 안팎으로 자연유가 드문드문 남아 있다. 뚜껑에 음각 무늬가 있다.

이 유물은 음식을 담는 그릇으로, 장례 의식 때 사용하거나 무덤에 껴묻거리(副葬品)로 넣었다. 이러한 종류의 뚜껑 접시의 형태와 장식이 신라 시대 고분에서 주로 출토되는 토기인 뚜껑 굽다리 접시의 윗부분과 동일하다. 굽다리가 없는 뚜껑 접시는 신라의 수도였던 경주에 위치한 천마총과 금관총을 포함한 여러 고분에서 발견되었다.

Den här skålen med lock är oval till formen när locket är på. Högst upp på locket finns en piedestalliknande knopp med fyra rektangulära genombrytningar på jämnt avstånd från varandra. Under knoppen sluttar sidorna ner till ett utskjutande band på kanten av lockets skuldra innan falsen tar vid. Skålens mynning har en rak kant (fals) som går ner till en avsats innan skålens kropp tar vid som sluttar ner mot en tillplattad botten. Tack vare användning av högkvalitativ lera och beskickning på drejplatta har föremålet kunnat få en slät och fin yta. Kärlet är mörkt gråblått och både insidan och utsidan har fläckar av slumpvis tillkommen askglasyr. På locket finns en symbol inristad.

Föremålet är till för livsmedel och även använd till begravningsceremonier och som gravföremål. Formen och dekoren på den här typen av skål med lock är identiska med övre delen av högfotade skålar med lock som är en av de vanligaste keramikföremålen som hittats i gravar från Silla (57 f Kr - 668 e Kr). Skålar med lock utan fot har hittats i gravar kring Gyeongju som var kungariket Sillas första huvudstad (till exempel Cheonmachong och Geumgwanchong tumuli.)

구스타브 아돌프 6세 전 스웨덴 국왕 (1882 – 1973)이 기증
소장 기록에 따르면 이 유물은 네 점의 소장품 중의 하나로 신라의 수도였던 경상북도 경주에서 인근에서 발견되었고, 왕세자와 왕세자비 부부가 한국을 방문한 후 스웨덴 동아시아박물관 컬렉션에 기증한 것이다. (“왕세자와 왕세자비는 한국에서 유래한 소장품을 동아시아박물관에 기증하였다. ’신라 야키’ 신라 시대 도기. 5세기 혹은 6세기. 한국 남부지방 경주 인근에서 발견됨. K4027: 1-4.” ).

스웨덴 구스타브 왕세자 (Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf; 이후 국왕 구스타브 아돌프 6세; 1882 – 1973)와 루이즈 왕세자비 (Crown Princess Louise; 1889 – 1965)가 1926년 10월에 한국 방문 당시 이 유물을 수집하였다. 구스타브 왕세자는 한국 미술과 고고학에 깊은 관심을 가졌으며, 왕세자 부부가 경주를 방문한 당시 같은 해 10월 10일에 5세기의 신라 고분인 서봉총 발굴작업에 참여했다. 주요 발굴 유물 중에는 봉황 장식의 금관 (보물 제339호, 현 국립중앙박물관 소장; 본관-014319-00000)이 있으며, 왕세자는 귀중한 삼국시대 금 귀걸이를 기념선물로 받았다. 또한, 서봉총은 스웨덴의 한자 명칭인 서전 (瑞典)에서 “서瑞” 자를 빌려서 붙인 이름으로, 현재 고분 근처에서 왕세자의 방문과 발굴참여가 기록된 기념비 및 왕세자가 심은 소나무를 찾아 볼 수 있다. 이후 스웨덴의 국왕이 된 왕세자의 한국 방문은 양국 간 교류의 중요한 사건으로 평가되고 있다.
