men vår tids människor
The sorrows of a white-haired old man
Flowers of prunus and peach at the eastern wall of Luoyang
whirl in the wind: in whose garden will they land?
The daughters of Luoyang who love their delicious beauty
sigh deeply when they meet with the falling flowers.
When this year’s flowers fall their beauty will fade,
who will be here when the flowers bloom next year?
The pines and cypresses have already been cut into firewood,
mulberry groves are said to have turned into sea.
People of the past will never return to the east wall of Luoyang,
people of today still face the wind that makes the flowers fall.
Year in and year out the flowers will remain the same,
year out and year in man will forever change.
