Of conical shape, this bowl has a wide mouth with a slightly everted lip. The sides slant down in a faintly curved line to the narrow, straight foot. The well in the centre of the interior is slightly sunken. The bowl is undecorated and coated with a smooth, greenish-tinged glaze. The glaze coated evenly but shows some pooling below the mouthrim. The foortim shows traces of clay pads that were used to raise the bowl off the firing surface in the kiln. The base inside the footrim is glazed and has a circular indentation along the edge of the rim.

This type of bowl was used to drink powdered tea, also known as Macha (Korean: malcha), which was popular among the elite in the early Goryeo period. The tea leaves were ground to a fine powder, and after water was added, whipped until bubbles occurred. The wide mouth and the conic shape of the tea bowl were suitable for the preparation and consumption of this type of tea.

The majority of extant early wares of the Goryeo dynasty (918-1392) are tea wares, which is related to the proliferation of tea culture during that time. Tea, as well as tea wares, were introduced to Korea from China. As the demand for tea vessels and utensils increased, the state initiated the local production of tea ceramics, which led to the development of green-glazed celadon wares and white porcelain. Tea drinking was an important aspect of the cultural and social life (of the upper class) and was closely associated with national rituals as well as religious practices and rituals in Buddhism - the state religion of the Goryeo Kingdom.

Den här konformade skålen har en vid mynning med lätt utsvängd kant. Sidorna går ner i en lätt böj ner till den smala, raka foten. Insidans botten är något nedsänkt. Skålen är odekorerad och täckt med en krämig, grönaktigt glasyr. Glasyren är jämn men med viss pölning under mynningen. På fotringen finns rester av brännugnsstöd i lera. Basen innanför fotringen har glasyr och en skåra runt längsmed ringens kant.

Den här typen av skål användes till att dricka pulverte ur. Pulverteet kallas också Macha (malcha på koreanska). Tebladen maldes till ett fint pulver som sedan vispades runt i det vatten som hällts på, tills dess att bubblor uppstod. Den vida mynning och den koniska formen på teskålen passade bra till att bereda och dricka den här typen av te.

Den huvudsakliga delen av den keramik som finns kvar från Goryeo (918-1392) är tegods, vilket har att göra med tekulturens utbredning. Både te och tegods kom till Korea från Kina. En ökad efterfrågan på teserviser gjorde att staten drog igång en egen tegodsproduktion. Detta ledde i sin tur till att grönt celadongods och vitt porslin utvecklades. Tedrickande var en viktig del av det sociala och kulturella livet (för de övre klasserna) och det var tätt sammankopplat med nationella ritualer och cermonier, samt med buddistiska ritualer. Buddismen var statsreligion i Korea under Goryeo.
